One of the most flamboyant characters in the sustainable and ethical designer circle, Dr Noki is a firm favourite of Estethica every season. Working with students from the University of Kingston this season, Noki is determined to present a vision of sustainability for the future, highlighting the importance of teaching the doctrines and ethos of sustainability to the next generation of designers, consumers and influencers.
Eschewing the homogeneity of mass-produced and globalised fashion, NHS (Noki's House of Sustainability) has a penchant for up-cycling, with each garment emphasising superior skills in cutting, stitching and embellishment.
Students were asked to make a 'fashion couture monster' from second hand rags, with the aim of detaching the audience from conventional fashion beauty and expectations in line with the debate surrounding the problem and solutions of land-fill fashion, calling on the Government to act.
Never shying away from provocation, Noki's signature process is to turn the traditional application of fashion on its head, chopping and twisting, restructuring and removing, splicing together numerous garments to create the perfect piece.
