Somewhere else I’ve spent an awful lot of time whilst bumbling around Melbourne is Flinders Street Station. Whilst it’s been proven to be just an odd rumour, locals like to tell tourists like me that when it was designed in 1899 by Fawcett and Ashworth (so far, so true), the architects mixed up the plans with another Fawcett and Ashworth design intended for India and built the train stations on the wrong sites. As fantastic a story as it is, I’m pleased it’s not true as I think its grandeur is quite fitting for the corner of Flinders and Swanston streets.
